Kirk Douglas Theatre
A next generation Broadway musical that uses the vocabulary of hip-hop while sampling Othello and Brecht to spin an epic tale of struggle and redemption sure to entertain audience members from 15 to 50 to 150.
Matt Sax and Eric Rosen, creators of the 2007 audience favorite Clay, return triumphantly to the Douglas with Venice, an ambitious new musical with a highly original score that fuses hip-hop, R & B and even opera.
Set in the not-too-distant future, this tale of two brothers who must lead their city out of a terrorist war is a visionary new theatrical work filled with love, politics, treachery, tragedy and exhilarating music.
A co-production with Kansas City Repertory Theatre. |

The Cripple of Inishmaan
April 5- May 1, 2011
If the outlandishly macabre antics of The Lieutenant of Inishmore at the Mark Taper Forum tickled your fancy, here’s a kinder, gentler work from Martin McDonagh—direct from Ireland!
It’s 1934 when word arrives on the island of Inishmaan that Hollywood is making a film on neighboring Inishmore, and Cripple Billy Claven wants in on the action. The Cripple of Inishmaan is bursting with McDonagh’s signature wry humor, salty brogue and eccentric characters.
This international touring production, directed by Tony Award® winner Garry Hynes (Beauty Queen of Leenane), and originally mounted by Druid theatre company of Galway, Ireland, has already racked up awards in New York, the UK and Ireland.

July 31 - August 28, 2011
"...beautifully conceived, confidently executed and wholly accessible work, which is not just her finest to date but also the best new play to open Off Broadway this fall."
- The New York Times
A new American comedy every bit as poetic as it is honest and revelatory. This captures forty-something life at its most vulnerable in a narrative that charms, shocks and resonates.
There is your first adult life full of hope and promise, and then there is your second adult life when an unexpected twist or turn drastically diverts your course. In This, five friends navigate unforeseen circumstances without a road map.
Fortunately, they have the insights and words of Melissa James Gibson, who imbues every conversation with rhythm and grace. In her hands language flows effortlessly with both amazing levity and profound weight, sometimes contained in a single word as simple as “this.”
